The Team Lean Challenge (TLC) is a program to promote and support weight loss for healthy living. TLC is based on the recognition that weight loss and behavior change requires a concerted effort and is much more likely to be successful with the support of a team. The idea behind this challenge is very simple: Motivation will track the body weight of all of the participants in the Team Lean Challenge both individually and in teams. At the end of the competition, the team with the greatest average percentage weight lost wins! Participants can register/enroll on-line for the program using Motivation. Throughout the competition, participants have access to a "Team Page" where they can see personal progress as well as the team standings. In addition, there is a team message board and logging capabilities. There are numerous resources to support their weight loss efforts in addition to a targeted bulk email capability that allows the administrator to communicate with all of the TLC participants.
1. Participants can locate information on the TLC by selecting "Weight Management" on the left tool bar.
2. The News and Announcement area is an excellent way to promote the start of a TLC program. Reference the content section of this manual to learn how to build an article.
This sample article communicates the enrollment dates and weigh in dates for an up coming Team Lean Challenge.
When promoting the start of a TLC program the key information to communicate in marketing material is:
1) About the Team Lean Challenge
2) Where they can enroll (i.e. your Motivation URL)
3) Where and When they can do an initial weigh in.
For maximum participation: Promotion for your TLC program should include marketing on your Motivation Site, sending bulk emails, on-site communication (e.g flyers, table toppers) and getting senior leadership participation and support.
1. Click on "Configuration" from the Motivation Administration Menu.
2. Click on "Team Lean Challenge" from the drop-down menu.
1. Location: Lists all the locations that are currently in Motivation.
2. Status: Allows you to edit and delete the TLC program for each of the locations listed
3. See Teams: Allows you to manage the teams and enrollments process for each location
4. Create: If you wish to create a TLC program for a location choose "create" and you will proceed to the configuration page.
1. Organization: If applicable, choose the Organization and Units that you wish to be eligible to participate in the TLC. If you would like all Motivation members at the location selected on the previous page to be eligible leave Organization and Unit as "all".
2. Sign up Start and End dates: This represent when you want participants to be able to start/end enrolling on-line for the program. Important Note: The enrollment period should correlate with participants coming on-site to get their initial weigh-in taken. This period of time is typically 2 - 4 weeks depending on the size of your program.
3. Competition Start and End dates: This represent when you want the program to start and end. Important Note: Your competition shouldn't start until your participants have enrolled in the program, completed their initial weigh-in and the administrator has completed configuring the TLC Teams.
4. Display Ends: Allows you to choose a date after the program is completed where participants will no longer have access to see their team page. Typically, this date is 2-3 weeks after the competition has ended and the winners have been announced.
5. Team Size: Indicate the number of people you wish to have on each team here. Note: Team sizes are the preference of the administrator. Please consider the possible implication of creating teams with a lot of members (i.e over 8). Often teams that are too large don't have as much success because participants don't feel as accountable.
6. Password: The password option allows the administrator to only except on-line enrollments from people whom have the password indicate here. Example: If you are charging a fee for participation in your TLC program, you can distribute the password to the participants once they have paid. Then refer them to the site to enroll on-line.
Leave the password area blank if you do not want to use a password.
Lastly, Submit.
1. Manage TLC Enrollment and Teams: Please read the paragraph at top of the screen to review "Manage TLC Enrollments and Teams" summary.

3. Add Members: If you wish to complete a members enrollment for them you can do so by choosing add member.

5. Member Name: Click a member's name to enter official weights, height and blood pressure from the participant’s weigh in.
• Names in red indicate no official measurement.
• Names in blue indicate an initial measurement only.
• Names in green indicate both initial and final, official measurements have been completed.
Important Note: Members that are red can not be assigned to a team. Participants must complete both enrollment on-line and a official weigh in to participate.
6. Team Name: Add team names into the system here. Click "Add Team".
7. Select Team: Once you have added team names into the system you can select a team for an individual by choosing "select team".
8. Assign To: When all requests have been filled you can choose to use the auto assign feature to place the remaining participants on a team automatically. Once you click on "autoassign all" the system will ask you to set a priority. Select Priority: Keep Units together or Balance team sizes. Please read the top of this page to determine which priority is right for your program.
